I have had my 17" Powerbook for about 10 months now, and I assume this means that my Applecare will be running out soon when the 12 months is up. My questions are:

1 Is it worth extending this Applecare coverage?

2 How and where do I puchase this - must I get it directly from Apple?

3 Are there different kinds/levels/lenths of coverage?

4 I am currently overseas - will I be able to activate it online or by phone even though I am not in the USA?

Any advice much appreciated.

Thanks

a) YES yEYS YESSSS
b) you can buy apple care just about anywere...

supposedly expercom.com has it for much cheaper but i would like others to verify that its the same applecare.

c) no.

d) yes. in fact applecare specfically takes care of your powerbook overseas.

I am assumeing you are a US citizen. if not read the fine print to make sure applecare applies to your country.

there was a similar thread about apple care about a week ago, do a search, there were lots of good recommendations there. one thing i would say, is if you purchased with a credit card, call customer service and see if it has free extended warranty. usually all visa, mastercard, and american express all have extended warranties and visa has the ability to extend it longer.

Yes -if you intend using the machine for a few years to come
No - if you plan on getting another machine soon

It's a FANTASTIC service if things go wrong - trust me - I bought a laptop on ebay - the screen arrived broken - five months of getting nowhere with the seller, my credit card company, paypal and ebay (i didn't complain quickly enough within 15 days) - all passed the buck and didn't help me

Finally I decide to get the repair done myself - the replacement screen was going to cost almost as much as the ebay price - so I felt duped, defeated and depressed - but guess what - the repair shop told me that the serial number was still covered by APPLECARE - so no charge !!!!!!!!!! (saved about 700 dollars)

Need I say more?

by the way they collect and deliver back at no extra charge where ever you are in the world
