i noticed a recent post about apple using the uj-845 for new powerbooks... and the reason was mainly because of slow burn speeds.

i have a 1.67ghz 15" with the uj-835.
how can i test the burn speeds, and how fast should they be?

thanks in advance!

You can start by looking here:

This thread describes what other people have seen with your drive, and what speeds it burns at (note that the speed is media specific... with this drive not all 8x media is the same). Hope this helps.

Chris
