Recently got my laptop stolen and must now purchase a new one. Anyone ever purchased one of those Apple Certified Refurbished iBooks? What has been your experience with them? Are they reliable and in good condition (both cosmetically and functionally)?

I just got a G4 14" yesterday.

The laptop itself looks perfect (maybe a couple of scuffs around the keyboard, but it is an iBook).

The AC adapter had a number of scratches. Since the laptop is working great, I didn't let it bother me too much. I dropped in a gig of ram, loaded Tiger, and all is well.

I bought a G5 last fall and the first one they sent me was missing a memory retainer clip in one of the memory slots! I made them send me a replacement unit (I didn't want to take it in for repair) and I got a unit with a better video card in it.

I guess what I am saying is that I would continue to buy refurbs. The savings are worth it even over my educational discount.

I picked one up for a friend just a few months back. When I received it I was really impressed. It looked as if it had never been touched. The case had the protective plastic "sticky" cover still on it. All the accessories where brand new. To me it was just like buying a new iBook only a few hundred bucks cheaper.

Besides, they are still under warranty.
