IT HAS BEEN LOST- APPLE SAID REPLACEMENT MAYBE BY May 20TH !!

I ordered by phone from Apple a 15.2 PB April 28, 2005; 2:00 p.m.

Processor 065-5644 1.67GHz PowerPC G4 w/ 128MB VR
Memory 065-5597 512MB DDR333 SDRAM - 1 SO-DIMM
Hard Drive 065-5379 100GB Ultra ATA drive @ 5400
Optical Drive 065-5286 8x SuperDrive (DVD+/-RW/CD-RW)
Country Kit 065-5376 Country Kit/AirPort Extreme
Keyboard/Mac OS Language 065-5290 Backlit Keyboard/Mac OS
Custom SW II 065-4681 Not Applicable

Then came the over whelming desire to check the tracking.

-and here is a cut and paste from this site "Service Type: EXPEDITED"

At first it said deliver May 4, 2005 -six day delivery - which was beyond my most pleasant dream.

I could see myself working on the NEW PB - which I would be showing my close friends at this moment.

WELL for the last three days {remember they are a day ahead on calendar].

May 3, 2005 9:39 A.M. SHANGHAI, CN EXPORT SCAN 8:42 A.M.

ORIGIN SCAN 4:39 A.M. CN

then the dreaded:

May 4, 2005 9:42 P.M.

TAO-YUAN, TW

THE AIRLINE OFF-LOADED PACKAGES CAUSING A DELAY: BILLING INFORMATION RECEIVED 9:42 P.M. TAO-YUAN, TW

This is still the status at 7:00 p.m. PST 5-5-05

But being real - I am aware that the tracking information is at times slow to updatge for many reason. Also I am typing on my IBook and most of the joy is in the anticipation - Knownig full well it will arrive soon.

I ordered my PB last Friday, and I'm seeing the exact same status. Let's hope UPS didn't drop our books in the Taiwan straits!

Just checked for umpteenth time- you may be right - lets hope the styrofoam keeps them afloat or better yet they sink and Apple and UPS have to try again.

Andgarden- A holiday in China from the 3rd to the 8th. no flights out - airport shut down.

This is what I was told by UPS 1-800-782-7892.

My PowerBook expectd delivery date is next friday the 13th. Customs etc. reason, also given for long delay.

We shall see.

And here I thought I was being clever by ordering on or about the release date of 10.4 and the PowerBook would be ready to charge out of the starting gate with in a week of my order.

Thinking back on when I ordered my iBook - May 2001 {when I became a member of Macnn}; no holiday but it still took about 15 days from order.

I will continue to read my 'missing manuals'

Funny, I ordered last week with the same idea in mind, and I have the same expected arrival date as you do (I also just checked with UPS too).

I'm also replacing a 2001 ibook, so there you go. At times like these, I really do wish that we lived in a "small world."

I see the same thing! I guess UPS or Apple must have gotten some complaints.

I think that the person at UPS - misunderstood 5 day delay - not 5 day holiday. For me, if one figures that the first delivery date was 4th and now the 9th, five day delay. I believe it was 'childrens day' May 3,4,5 that was the hold up.

This is sort of off topic but for the record, my BTO arrived 3 days earlier than apple said it would. And it had tiger.

The latest: PB never arrived - called UPS - it appears they have lost the PowerBook - The UPS driver came and said he did not have package. Called local UPS office, they showed it scaned in but can not find any driver who does have it. Is someone else now using the PowerBook I ordered? How long before I really do receive a PowerBook with Tiger inside. Ok - the Tiger got loose and and they can't catch it.

The problem: I am doing a project and need to burn a DVD and this person who I am doing the project for is bugging me - he has a deadline....

That's terrible. I'm happy to announce that I got my machine here in Philadelphia just this afternoon, and I can say that it's wonderful. Good luck with yours though.

Yes, three hours ago - and will give one more chance at delivery attempt at 10:30 tomorrow - If no Powerbook - then a meaningful phone call to the Apple Supervisor.

10:08 p.m. Resched. Delivery: May 10, 2005

we shall see

5-10-05 UPDATE

UPS say package lost - then 10 phone calls to apple before Charles was able to give some satisfactory answer of what apple can do. maybe replacement by the 20th
