so i thought i had no problems when i installed tiger, but that didnt last too long. now im noticing lil problems here and there and some are really bugging me. my problem is sleep related, my pb seems to be turning on from me just pulling the usb plugs out of it while it's in sleep with lid closed...reallly frustrating, because i can't really see the screen but i notice the led in front stops pulsing. anybody experiencing this issue, and/or other ones?

My Ibook does that... did it on Panther and now Tiger, wake up... apple logo lights.... sleep light stops pulsating..... goes back to sleep..... sleep light pulsates...... all by itself.

It's nothing specific to your Powerbook, or the Powerbook line in general.

You're meant to be able to run the 'books in Clamshell Mode, with a usb keyboard and mouse, when the usb peripherals are removed (mouse) it may short the plug slightly and make it think it's going into clamshell mode, or else it senses the mouse is removed and power's up for a sec to update the OS.

The only big problem I have (aside from published app incompatibilities) is I loose my IP address or drop my Airport connection far too regularly. The icon still shows full strength, but all of the sudden, network dies. I then either have to re-select the airport network or open network prefs and request a new DHCP address. Has happened about 5 times- never did in panther on same machine. Damn annoying.
Paco is bitter about the loss of his .mac webpage. Image will return when his sadness lessens.

My TiBook does that and has all through 10.3.x as far as I can remember. I've found it annoying too, but I don't think there is a way to change it. I do have a slight recollection of a 'allow usb devices to wake this computer' option, but I may just be on crack. Anyone else remember that option somewhere?

I hear a high pitched whine when moving the mouse in some apps now, namely Dreamweaver. This did not exist under Panther. It's a lot like the G5 chirping powersupply, but it's only audible when moving the mouse. I do have iScroll installed.

My PB would awake from sleep when I pulled out or plugged in a USB cable and that was while running 10.3.

Thats indeed a feature not a bug. Since I got my first iBook back in 1999 the usb woke up the system. USB has hot plugging functionality that means it sends a hardware generated signal to the system. Only this way your computer can automatically recognize a hot plugged device. And when the system is sleeping it has to wake up and react.

Otherwise OS X would still think your device is connected afer wakeup and crash when it tries to access the usb device.

All I know is that my PB doesn't like to be waken up from sleep with bluetooth equipment. Irritating when you have your lid closed. Looking forward to 10.4.1 for sure.

Mine too. I always forgot to unplug my USB mouse before closing the lid, and it would wake from sleep when I unplugged the mouse.

My Ibook wakes up when removing mouse (it also does it when removing ethernet but I think i've got wake on lan set to on), but goes back to sleep again, just wait a few seconds to see, it's not instant.

If you guys want to avoid the PowerBook/iBook from waking from sleep on plugging/unplugging USB devices, you have to make sure AC power is disconnected while you do the plugging. Apple's idea is that AC power + USB device means closed-lid operation, so the PowerBook wakes up if the USB config changes. If AC power is disconnected, closed-lid operation won't happen and so there's no reason to wake from sleep. It's all pretty rational.

I have a bluetooth mouse & keyboard. I like being able to wake the Powerbook with them (because when I'm not on the move I use it in clamshell mode), but it annoyed me that, when I put it to rest, I switched off the keyboard, and put the mouse to recharge (it's a Logitech MX900), the PB would wake up.
My solution, weird as it might seem, has been to activate the option to ask for password when waking up (in Security).
If that option is not checked, the PB will wake up and will not go back to sleep until 20min has passed. If the option is checked, the PB will go back to sleep again after a few seconds (¿maybe 1min?) without entering the password.
Now the PB still wakes up, but at least it goes back to sleep so quickly that it really doesn't bother me anymore.

Try it this way instead: first put the mouse in the cradle and then type option-command-eject to put the PowerBook to sleep. That way it stays asleep until you take the mouse out of the cradle or type a key on the keyboard.
