Hi there,

I bought a Corsair System Select 1GB PC2700 (System Profiler reports it as PC2700U-30330) stick for my 1.25ghz 15" Albook, as I searched around and saw others had bought this same stick without having any problems. My system now has 1GB + one factory 256MB stick = 1.25GB memory.

I upgraded to 10.3.9 immediately before I installed it - ever since then, it appeared to only wake from sleep perhaps 25% of the time, most of the time would just sit there with a blank screen and never wake up (although the pulsating light would stop), requiring me to manually power off the machine and restart. Not sure whether this is the RAM or 10.3.9.

Since installing Tiger, I'm also (additional to this) experiencing crashes/hard locks, although they seem to be triggered by events rather than random (such as [un]plugging my power adapter, or opening certain applications). This is a clean install.

The funny thing is that I dual boot Linux (Ubuntu Hoary) on this machine - Linux works perfectly, not one problem - suspend works perfectly every time, and it has not crashed once. Likewise, running memtest and Apple Hardware Test comes back with no problems. Tried swapping slots for the memory, no difference.

I've experienced faulty RAM before, but this isn't acting like faulty RAM - not sure what the heck it actually is.

Any ideas? Has anybody installed this RAM with success/failure?

I'm going to try running the system just with the 256MB stick (groan), but would like to hear from others in any case (whether they've successfully installed this RAM, having the same problems, etc).

Okay, I took out the 1GB stick and all the problems went away, so it's definitely the RAM doing wierd things. I'm not sure if it's faulty, or just incompatible - it *is* more expensive System Select RAM, though.

Identified why it only suspended 25% of the time; the 256MB stick was installed in the lower slot. If I was using under 256MB RAM, it suspended/woke fine, if I was using more than it (i.e. utilising the 1GB stick), it would never wake up.

Grr.

Has anybody else installed a 1GB Corsair stick (Value Select, or System Select) into their Powerbook and can report if it did/didn't work?

Maybe the Value Select will work better? Maybe this stick is just borked? Wish to hear from others.
