Here is a new situation, given that I have the money.... There is a special in my college. I can buy an ibook for 949 because of the student discount. That leads to 949. There is also a 100 dollar rebate which brings it do 849. Plus if I purchase applecare I get a $100 instant rebate... What do you guyst think? Is this a good deal? Applecare and a brand new ibook for $843?? Amazon would be 899 with no Applecare, but no taxes.. he he thank u gyus

?

Go for it, sounds good to me. Remember to stick in at least another 256MB of RAM

pretty and well preserved piece, but to skid across the line broadside,
thoroughly used up, worn out, leaking oil, shouting GERONIMO!"

you can purchase the applecare from apple without buyin the ibook from the apple store.. as long as you do it inside of a year.. there should be no problem.. That way you get the best of both worlds..

how are you getting this number?

949 - ibook (combo) w/student discount
-100 - mail in rebate
= 849
+183 - applecare
-100 - special off applecare
=932

am i missing something?

I think those are some fuzzy numbers, I have never heard of the $100 off AppleCare.... If you can get it for $83, however, jump on it!

Would you mind posting info about the $100 off AppleCare deal? Is this for education users only or is it available elsewhere? I have not been able to find it online.

So does anyone know more about these $100 off on applecare? That's one I hadn't heard of. The UCLA Store doesn't have it right now, anyway. The best deal I'm seeing is the student discount + $100 rebate (before 6/25). I do want to get applecare, is it cheaper to not go through the apple store?

If you have a comparable deal, I wouldn't recommend the amazon scene. I got my 'book through them and it took much longer than advertised to get the rebate (after a few "annoyed consumer" calls to customer relations). There's a thread around here about it.

I'd try to wait one day before the rebate expires to make your purchase. Just in case a new ibook gets introduced since it is long over due. Not trying to get into the whole endless "wait for newer technology" debate, but its coming soon...and if not, maybe right before the next school year?
