I'm trying to back up all my iTunes music. I'm trying to burn it through iTunes onto a Memorex, 8x, DVD-R. It starts, but then gives me this message:
"The attempt to burn a disc failed. The device failed to calibrate the laser power level for this media."

What the heck does that mean? I've never had a problem burning music CDs or DVDs before upgrading to Tiger. I'm not able to burn through the Finder either. (I just successfully burned a CD-R.)

Thanks for any help you can provide.

Here's my computer info:

It means that the drive is incompatible with that media, just as it reads.

Optical media, though it appears "blank" has specific information printed on every disc. This is the sort of thing that tells a CD-R drive whether it's a 24x or 52x CD-R, and similarly a 1x vs 8x DVD.

Something on the memorex disk isn't jiving with your superdrive.

So, either:

A. the discs are bad
B. The discs are fine but the media is just not compatible with your superdrive
C. The media is fine and should be compatible with your superdrive, but something's wrong with the SD/

Knowing how picky these matshita superdrives are in my experience, I doubt it would be C....or A.

Thanks so much. I'm off to buy some new discs and see if that works. Wish me luck.
