I am planning on selling my iBook and picking up a 12 Powerbook. I would absoloutley love to have the backlit keyboard , but its only avaliable on the 15 & 17 models. Now I was looking around on eBay and saw a few auctions for backlitt keyboards and they apppear to be the same size and dimensions as the 12's. My question is this , would it be possible to install a backlit keyboard on a 12 and have it work assuming all connections are the same? Thanks in advance!

Nope!
The keyboard itself might fit, but the 12" dont have a light sensor or power cable for the backlight.

i was upset when apple originally brought out the 17" and 12" powerbooks, and the 12" was lacking the backlit keyboard; which is in my opinion one of the coolest things i have ever seen on a laptop.

i have the 15" powerbook with the backlit keyboard and i hate to say it, but it does not get used all the time.
yes, the feature is cool, but don't worry too much that you won't have it.

either that, or get the 15" (the monitor is worth it )

I went from a 1.33 15" to a 1.67 16"- and gained the backlit keyboard. It's really cool, but a bit like the wavy effect when adding new widgets to dashboard- technology demo and not much else.

If you wasnt the 12", get it and be happy- while the 15" is more feature rich, it costs a lot more and is a lot heavier. I love my PB, but often wish for more portability.

And before the chorus of "wanna trade?" starts... no.
Paco is bitter about the loss of his .mac webpage. Image will return when his sadness lessens.
