Hi

I have been using windows ever since i was 12 and next week i am planning to switch to a mac. I am planning to get the new powerbook 1.67ghz with 1024 ram, 128 vcard, etc. Im a Montreal Canada student and this saturday there will be a retail store opening in toronto opening at yorkdale. I was thinking is there a way for me to order a powerbook from a retail store which is in canada and have them send it out to me. I would prefer sending it within canada since i wont have to wait for it to clear from customs.

My other question if that if i order from a retail in canada will i be still eligible for the student discount.

For those who switched from windows to a mac, how is it in terms in performance and quality. I currently have the dell inspiron 8600 which is made out of cheap plastic and very dissapointed on how it performs.I was wondering how is the quality on the powerbook. But most importantly, how well does it perform.

Well Ken, I have recently switched from a Dell Latitude to the Powerbook G4. The Powerbook I purchased is of the exact configuration as the one you're considering and have been using it for a little over a month. The only thing I can tell you is that I should have switched sooner.

The quality as compared to Dell is amazing, I love not having to boot my computer every time I need to work on it (you shut the lid for sleep and it awakens in about a second when the lid is opened), the user interface is clean and intuitive, and what I love most is the ability to just work without the computer and the OS getting in the way.

As for your questions, you should be able to get the student discount when buying from retail stores. Just remember to take your student ID with you.

Ken.

Just order it online. Clearing thru customs takes maybe 1 day. Also if you're ordering a custom build, it will be from outside Canada anyway. The retail store will not ship either.

Also, what school are you at in Montréal? It may have a computer store if it's a university. eg. McGill, U de M, etc.
