When I want to run my PowerBook using an external monitor as the primary monitor, how do I get the PB to not go to sleep when I close the lid?

Also, whenever I have the external monitor connected and I boot up or restart, the PowerBook's screen comes on at low illumination (showing wallpaper only) and the only way I can get it to go black is by manually turning the brightness all the way down in prefs. Is there a way to force it to not come on when a monitor is connected?

Thanks

EDIT: Please move this to the Mac OS forum, I think it's really something that should be in there.

I don't know if this is still how you do it, but the following KB for 10.1 is all I found at the Apple website:

You could try searching for more up to date info.

Typically for me (G3 Powerbooks) it's perfectly working, when I do this:

- close PB to sleep
- connect external monitor
- connect USB device (mouse) to wake up the 'book. Now only the external monitor is used, dock (X), control strip (9) etc are now on it.

Regards,
PB.
