I've had my external TDK cd writer for almost 2 years now and have never had any problems with it until I upgraded to Panther last year. I found some suggestions on this site on how to make some adjustments and downloaded a new device plugin so I could directly burn photos and songs from iPhoto and iTunes. However, sometime ago my Mac downloaded some updates from Apple and had to restart. Ever since then my computer will no longer read my external cd writer. I know my firewire port is fine because I use it everyday with my iPod. I brought my cd burner to compusa and hooked it up to several different macs over there and it worked fine. I also made sure to use my own cable so I know that my cable isn't broken.
Any suggestions as to why my computer would stop reading?
I'm running a Powerbook G4 Titanium with 512mb ram and OSX 10.3.9
This is really bugging me so any help would be appreciated.
Thanks.

I had problems with my LaCie external firewire CD burner no too long ago ( on 10.3.x... have had no problems so far on 10.4) where it wouldn't recognize the blank disc -- I discovered an esy fix was to hit the power button to turn it off and then on again.

I'm not sure that this fix will work for your situation, and if not I suggest removing the plugins and seeing if it recognizes the drive then (you can also check to see if updated versions of the plugins are available that may fix the problem). Try re-installing the plugins to see if you get functionality back. If not, you may need to remove the plugins completely and download the combo installer of 10.3.9 and install that. If nothing works, all that I can suggest is a reinstall of 10.3.

I erased my hard disk and did a clean install of OSX 10.3.
Software update brought OSX back to version 10.3.9. It still will not read my CD writer.
I suppose Apple is forcing me to update to 10.4
I couldn't find any plugins.
