I have a 1999 Lombard with a Powerlogix 500 Mhz upgrade that would charge the battery a month ago. I didn't use it for a month. Now, I can use the laptop on AC adapter, but the battery won't charge. I tried a hard reset on the little button on the back, bt I do not know what else to do. The battery is original (6 years old). Should I just buy a new battery?

Thanks in advance for advice.

Batteries do go bad, can't be helped. You've reset the PMU by holding the little button down, the only other thing you could check is resetting the PRAM. It's worth a try, but not terribly likely to revive the battery.

Note: hold the key-combination down thru at least 4-6 startup chimes to thoroughly clear the PRAM.

Just be happy you didn't buy a more recent Apple laptop; their batteries go dead after three years.

Or you can try replacing the cells in your battery yourself:

Newertech makes great Lombard batteries

http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/power...ry/g3-lombard/

There comes a point at which you have to stop and think about how much $ you're going to put into an older laptop. I sold my Ti-400 for $600 and bought a rev C 12" for $999 brand-new after rebate. The only thing I miss in the exchange is the great LCD of the Ti-400. The pluses: great portability; much, much faster; dynamite wireless range; one-year warranty; new battery and larger HD; great combo drive compared to DVD-Rom; don't have to worry about the hinge.

I agree-- the Lombards are simply long in the tooth. I had the very same battery problem, replaced the cells for $55 from batterspace.com (and a little time in the shop), and put the new battery in a Pismo. The Pismo's old battery went into the Lombard; still gets 2 hrs runtime.

But I would not have spent $150 for a new battery for a Lombard, just not worth it.

Thanks--

I've taken your advice. I'm buying a new Powerbook.
