Ti users that cannot adjust screen brightness or resolution. This really sucks Apple. I know I am not the only one with this issue. There was a lengthy thread about this in Apple discussions and they so nicely LOCKED it.
Why?
Do they think that if they just ignore it long enough and keep locking thread that it will just go away?

Did you need such a vague headline?
Anyway, my feelings on the subject are ...

Have you tried contacting Apple via email or telephone?

that does suck... don't know what to say. as for the headline, i thought it was a "complain about tiger thread" where users could share problems. give the newbies a breather randman, it wasn't that vague, but i do see your point.

Hi everyone,
Please excuse the title, I didn't mean to irritate anyone, if I could change it I would. I am not new, I just dont live here like some do.
Rand, I contacted Apple about this both ways, I got now response thru email but have talked to them several times on the phone about it and they would only tell me to isntall Panther and leave it at that. To me, this is not an acceptable solution. If they were to offer me a refund on Tiger then fine but they won't. They offered no other solution other than reinstall Panther or send it in for service. When I asked them what they would do if I sent it in for service and they told me that they would just install JAGUAR and send it back to me. ??? What does that fix?
So basically, if I want a fully functional PB, I have to go back to Panther and use my Tiger CD as a $130 coaster since they won't let me return it.
Eug, You are lucky, there are several ppl that are in the same boat as me. There is a thread with over 60 responses in the Apple discussion area that was locked for no apperant reason other than shutting us up. Also, can you tell me what system profiler says your video card is? I am starting to think that Apple used two different cards in the 1GHz Ti. since some of us are screwed and others are fine.

No problem with an 867MHz Ti Book.
But they haven't fixed the fluctuating Airport signal.

Allenzi35:
Did you try a complete reformat of the drive and reinstall? (Try zapping PRAM first).
Then try holding down the "fn" key when pressing the brightness keys, if the brightness keys don't work on their own.

It's odd how often you read about Apple deleting or Locking threads on their own support site. It's dissapointing that they'd virtually slap so many of their customers.

I have tried everything, any troubleshooting you can throw at me, I've done it. Nothing works. I am done troubleshooting, this is something that can only be fixed by Apple releasing an update.
Person, I have formatted and installed at least 5 times. No dice. I have zapped the PRAM to death, held down every combination of keys during startup, everything. Nothing works.
Tails, as stated in the post RIGHT above yours, I have contacted Apple several times thru email and phone, I have open case numbers. Apples only solution is to reinstall Panther or send it in for repair. (which they flat out told me, all they would do is reinstall JAGUAR and send it back)
Here are just some of several threads on Apple's site about this:
Link 1
Link 2
Link 3
Link 4
Link 5
Link 6
And finally the original LOCKED thread:
Link 7
Apple's solution (reinstalling previous OS) does solve the problem which PROVES that this is a SOFTWARE problem and not a hardware problem.

MacInTouch Reader
Since I installed Tiger on my 2 year old Ti PowerBook G4 1GHz I have lost the ability to adjust/control the brightness of the LCD screen. I tried everything that I could think of to resolve the situation including a couple of reinstalls. I waited for the update to 10.4.1 hopping that would resolve the problem but no luck. So (thank god for AppleCare) I called for tech support and got kicked from Texas to Sacramento at which point the Sac guy said he needed to check with engineering and would call me back.
Well, call me back he did and said that this is a known issue and considered “hot” by the engineering department. He was not able to give me a timeline but said that it would definitely be resolved either in a standalone patch or via another update (10.4.2 ??).

they could possibly have locked it because they were aware of it and a fix is in the pipeline for 10.4.2?
just a thought.

I just noticed that this is affecting me. (i think. i can not adjust the brightness from my fkeys?)
brand new pb. new 10.4->10.4.1 install.
i do have my fkeys to do the expose thing instead of the default.
not bugging me yet but i can see how it would bother folks.
seems like they are on a fix though.
