In addition to the not waking from sleep, today after trying about 5 times to wake my powerbook (by holding down the power button), my powerbook beeped (!!? yes it did) and the sleep LED flashed/pulsed several times very fast.

What error does that mean? I've never read or heard about it.

The concerning thing is that normally when it won't wake up, I hold down the power button and it shuts off, I press the power button (and there is some kind of movement inside, optical drive?) that lets me know the machine is turning on, and it turns on. This time it took 7+ times for the powerbook to actually boot up. 2 additional tries after it beeped and LED flashed.

back up immediately.

if its anything like my old g5 when a beep is ddifferent on startup and the light flashes in that manner then you have a hw problem.(maybe ram)

back up.

go to the apple dicussions and search for blinking light powerbook (etc.)

and get ready to call apple care.

Can you post the exact sequence of beeps and lights? They help to indicate what the problem is as mentioned. Three beeps at boot is bad RAM. Chances are that is what your problem is.

there was one long beep. i didn't count the flashes. i've never had any problems in the past, how could this happen now? i've had the ram in there for about 7 months.

also, does this have anything to do with the pb not waking from sleep?

I have a powerbook that beeps three times (flashes four times, documentation says that there is always one more flash than beeps so this is fine). Apparently it is either a RAM failure (never removed the Apple supplied RAM) or a logic board failure .

The Book is 15 month old so it is out of the one year warranty. Luckily in europe (germany in this case) there is a 24 month warranty (Gewährleistung) on everything you buy. The problem is just that I have to prove that the fault already existed when the Powerbook was sold. Since the Book was never opened and still looks new I think it is obvious but I am not sure that the Apple store agrees ...
