I have a new E-mac. That's not the problem. I took the E-mac software disk and loaded osX 10.3.5 on my Ibook. That actually went well. But now I can't open any applications (other than the ilife ones). Every app gives a message " The Application "Word" could not be launched because of a shared Library error."-<Microsoft Word><Microsoft Word><CarbonLib><>"

I get the same message for every app, just change the name to the app name.

What can I do to fix this?

Reinstall Office would fix the M$ part. Sounds as if you did some kind of archive and the library has gotten messed up. You could try repairing permissions, but I doubt that will help. The simplest way may to simply do a clean install, then reinstall the apps.

Or, hopefully you have a viable backup and can restore items from there.

most likely not, reinstalling office should, logically, only affect office.
