Even though there might be a upgrade coming out, I just couldn't wait anymore to get started using a mac. I opted for this one just in case I did not get the feel of the operating system before i spend any money on the higher units. Well, needless to say I really like it just waiting for a Tiger book to come out so I can know more. Now I'm saving up for a new iMac G5 to go along with my iBook then I can give my PC to my Mom.

Awesome, you're going to love it. I got my iBook back when they first made the G4, 800Mhz. The thing still is as snappy as ever!

Seriously, even this older iBook I bought doesn't feel slow, even though I'm used to a 1Ghz. G4 CPU (vs. a 500Mhz. G3!).

Congats and Welcome, alicia4065! Looks like we've got a few new iBook users here- Hey, the more the merrier!

Thanks for the warm welcome. I attend to enjoy my new baby and then get a big brother to go along with it so it won't feel alone.

Welcome to the club. I got my first laptop (an ibook of course) last summer and its better than I imagined. Its really a rock. I don't physically treat it badly but I use it every day for hours and travel a bit with it, even still I haven't restarted it in over 150 days now.

You should also take a trip to the applications forum and try out some programs that people here like or just browse through macupdate.com

Here's a spot for the goodies I've found. I'm fairly new to Mac as well.

Couple of things I use the most.

Sidetrack. I've tried the scrolloing trackpad, but switched bac as I love the corners for expose (F9) and F11, with scrolling on the side.

VLC (better) and/ or Full screen Player X (not so better)

Welcome, Alicia! I got my iBook 13 months ago, and now I'm finally about to invest in a 20" G5 iMac. You'll never go back, and I'm guessing that there are a lot more like us out there. One of my college professors stopped class one day when he saw my iBook and said, "Ah, another renegade!" Then he went to his desk and showed me his iBook, then talked to me about it for a few minutes, with the rest of the class listening and trying to figure out what all the fuss was about. Now several of my classmates have bought or are in the process of buying a Mac.

First, as a fellow iBook owner, you will freakin' LOVE it. I bought a 14" iBook last year for me, but my wife loves it so much I have to fight her for it.

One piece of advice I would give to you and any iBook/Powerbook owner is buy an Applecare extended warranty! I have never been much for buying extended warranties on stuff, but I read lots of forums, like this one, when I first got my iBook, and everyone mentioned buying Applecare.

My friends' iBook hard drive just went out on him. Luckily, he's got about another 2 months on the original warranty, but he doesn't have the Applecare. He's going to get it now!

It'll save you hundreds of dollars if something goes wrong.

Normally, the iBook Applecare is $250, but I found LA Computer Company has it for about $185 after shipping. They are a reliable reseller who always advertises on dealmac.com (awesome website and should be part of any Mac user's daily deal seaching), so you can trust them.

LA Computer Company

I am not affiliated with them at all, just a wise Mac consumer.

Good luck!
GG
