Apart from everybody wishing for a Powerbook G5 or a double-core G4, wouldn't it be nice to have a PowerBook Light?

As a former Windows-user I used to have a Sony Vaio of less than 3 pounds, with a screen resolution of 1200x800. Most roadwoariors don't need more than a G4 for email, wordprocessing, browsing etc. but would die for 7 hours working time.

Would it possible to have a MacLight with a 1200 x 800 screen, 7 hours of battery life and a weight of 3 pounds?
After 18 years of MS-DOS and Windows working very happy on Mac, now on a 15" MacBook Pro 2.2 Ghz - 2Gb memory - 200 Gb HD with a 20 and 23" screen. I've been waiting for the iPhone for quite a while, let's role it out in Europe. Just one wish left for now: a light mac (2-3 pounds) with 8 hours of working time. They can do it... :-)

Possible but not practical for a company like Apple. There is a much smaller market for Macs and I think a powerbook mini (more realistic name if it did materialize) might not re-coup its return on investment. Having too many product lines also caused problems for the company in the mid-90s and I doubt this is a mistake they'd like to repeat.

PowerBook light = iBook.

They need to kill the iBook.

The only real difference between it and the powerbook is video card and the ability to mirror. That's how stagnant the Powerbook line has become. At this point, Apple is having to work pretty hard to make the iBook hobbled in comparison to the PB.

The 12" PB is pretty small really. Not as small as some of the PC stuff, but, the PC market is much larger and can support such odd lil' niche things.
