So i tried to start my 1.5 Powerbook G4 15" this morning only to find that it locks up everytime right before it finishes loading the system. I ran Disk Utility from the factory boot cd but nothing was successful. When i tried to Verify Disk Permissions, it gave me this: "Error: No Valid Packages (-9997). When i ran the Repair Disk, these were the messages that showed up in red:

Invalid Sibling Link
Invalid Map Node
Invalid Directory Count (It should be 0 instead of 1)
Invalid Directory Count (It should be 0 instead of 16)
Invalid Volume Directory Count (It should be 73180 instead of 3220)
Invalid Volume File Count (It should be 308610 instead of 4139)
Invalid Leaf Record Count (It should be 1 instead of 966)
Volume Bit Map needs minor repair
Invalid Volume Free Block Count

The Volume could not be repaired

Error: The underlying task reported failure on exit (-9972).

I have no clue what these mean but thats what you guys are for
If you have any idea what to do, help would be greatly appreciated.

I'm afraid you will have to try an erase&install... (you can try archive&install first and see if it's enough)

Back up files, then erase and reinstall the OS. Sorry sounds bad.

You drive is pretty heavily corrupted. DiskWarrior might be able to fix those errors. If you don't have Diskarrior, or have access to it, It's up in the air whether an archive and install would work-- your personal files could be corrupted, too. If you can boot the machine from an external drive and retrieve whatever files you can, I would do that first, before achiving and installing.

Alright, so i tried to go through the installation but when i get to the "Select Destination" part, no drives or partitions show up. Is there any way to check the drive for hardware problems? I guess im going to try to get my files off somehow and then install from scratch. Let me know what you guys think.

I really need some help guys... I tried to connect my laptop to my Dad's connecting them with a firewire cable and booting into firewire mode on my laptop. The only problem is it won't detect a drive. If i have a cd in my drive, the firewire will detect that on my dad's comp but nothing from the hard drive. Does this mean its completely dead? I would really, really like to get some things off of it if its still possible. Can anyone give me some advice on what to do next?

Seconded. That list of directory probs in the first post is exactly what DiskWarrior is for.
