Really?
Drain the battery until it goes to sleep, and then recharge.
Mine's the other way round, I get way more battery life now!
Sminch, have you still not received your battery yet?

hmmm. no sign of my battery yet - filled in the web form to get a replacement on wed 25th, got the confirmation email, but nothing since.

i just talked to applecare in australia (er, or at least routed through australia), and the woman i talked with was really nice... gave me a case # and said they'd be in touch. no dramas, except the fact that my laptop is ostensibly crippled until the new battery turns up.

i don't suppose there are any kiwis / aussies out there who have received / not received their replacements?

Got mine within 2 days and gained a few minutes of usage time. My old battery was about 5 months old.

Mine came in 2 days. Guy showed up, and have been waiting soooo long for something else that I forgot the battery was coming at all. Much to my suprise.....2 days!!! Who would think that they would process online orders so fast.
As far as battery life, my old one (5 months old) lasted over 5 hours. I'm always cordless, and I almost always use the battery to the bitter end. Would it make a difference to actually take it as far as sleep after it has been calibrated initially this way??
What I need to do is actually keep track of time, rather than relying on the time off the display, cuz after my initial post, the time on the display hasn't gone up, but I swear I'm getting more than it's telling me. Possible??

i would've thought that the battery life that shows up in your menu bar is a guesstimate based on the system prefs and battery drain up to that point in the charge, maybe with a decaying average or something along those lines. this would give you a reasonably accurate idea of how much you have left, assuming you keep using it in the same way (so if you spent the first hour ripping a dvd it'll assume you'll keep doing that for the rest of the battery's charge, which means the estimated time left will be way off if you stop ripping and start, say, playing minesweeper). i'd say that the only way to really test battery life would be to do the same thing while timing it, otherwise you'll be introduce another source of error.

though i may be talking utter bollocks.
