Hello

I am virgin to Macs and just recently bought an ibook (my PC was really pissing me off). I am currently in Cambodia and I am trying to connect my ibook up to my USB modem.
I am not using the internal modem because phone lines here are not the greatest and therefore the wireless telephone network is the way to go here.

I currently have a Huawei Wireless Modem Terminal and I have previously used its USB data cable to dial up. I am a little stuck now because the ibook doesn't recognise the USB modem and the modem didn't come with Mac software drivers (its a chinese product!).

Is there some way I can get the ibook to recognise the USB modem?
The ibook internet connect only seems to have 3 options: internal modem, ethernet or airport. How do I activate an external modem?

The ibook G4 is running OSX 10.3.7.

Any pointers would be greatly appreciated!

I would try to contact Huawei and ask them if they can send you drivers for Mac OS X. Did you try to visit their web site?

Thanks for that advice. I have actually emailed Huawei but haven't heard back. I also am doubtful that they have Mac drivers because the manual doesn't mention Macs. Is there any way at all around this?

Do you think a virtual PC will work?

Thanks in advance.

I wouldn't recommend virtual PC... it's very slow. I would rather change the modem and buy one for which there is a Mac OS X driver. (You might want to consider ethernet modems, they don't require any driver and work right away).

Yeah I would just use the internal modem but the Huawei modem terminal also doubles as the wireless telephone connection so i have to use it in order to connect. If I use my own modem I have to get another phone line in. hmmm....
