Okay, help me understand this. Did you use your battery in your Powerbook before the recall? Did you burn down your house, fry your computer or anything like that? Do you think that because Apple posted the recall, your battery will all of a sudden do the above?

Sorry for the attitude, but my wife does this same type of thing. During an oil change, the guy will say "look like you need new tires" then all of sudden it is an emergency to get new tires. I ask, why did this all of a sudden become a problem when before you were aware of it, it was not an issue. Was your truck sliding all over the road, was it driving funny, did you notice anything strange? Why does this all of a sudden have to get fixed now? you're are saying that it can't wait a few days until we have some free time just becaue someone said it may be a problem... not "is a real problem."

I would like to know how many people have actually have had fire related issues with their batteries? Apple had said there were like 6 reports of problems. Honestly people shouldn't over react.

vtgts500kw - i'm in a similar situation with my ibook, and i'm in nz as well. filled in the form, waited, waited, then finally gave up on that and phoned apple and talked to someone on the support line. if you want to give it a go their number is on the apple nz website (00800 7666 7666 i think).

i called on wednesday afternoon and was given a case number and told they'd get back to me. nothing yet, but.

i'm the same as you - this is taking longer than i expected, and i'm beginning to get a little pissed. i'm not sure whether i should be worried about the battery or not cos it's been fine and isn't getting hot or anything, but if it burns my house down i think apple wouldn't have much sympathy if i tried to blame them see as they know i know that the battery could be dodgy. one in a million chance of it bursting into flames, for sure, but i'd feel like a moron if i lost my house cos i didn't take it seriously.

i'd suggest you give them a ring, anyway - can't do any harm. i, for one, am notching this up as my first problem with this laptop as i believe that if you four issues they'll give you a new machine. not sure if apple will agree with me on that if it comes down to it, but if you can't use your laptop on battery power for two weeks that's a pretty major issue...

good luck, eh? and post here if / when the battery ever does arrive cos i'd be keen to know how other kiwis are going with this.

so your saying you would risk your wifes life driving on suspect tires just to wait a few days till you have time? if they sent a recall out on the tires, like with the battery, im pretty sure you would stop using them as soon as you heard and get new ones, its not worth the risk is it?

id rather be annoyed at not having a battery rather than not having a house ot put the laptop in. very little chane of it actually catching fire, but why risk it?

and it has been 2 weeks, which is a long time especially when i have had parcels deliverd from the us 2 days after i orderd them.

sminch: will do, hopefully soon.
