Computer has been very sluggish last few weeks.
Boot-up was taking 15 minutes.
I ran several disk repair programs.
All seemed to be working fine for the next few days.
I backed up everything and installed Tiger last night. (Erase and Install)
Today I moved most everything back on to the laptop.
I went to Disk Utility and saw SMART status: Failing.
Did some research on this site and others.
I realize the harddrive needs to be replace.
Computer is not under warranty.
Called Apple Store they said it could take over a week to replace. (pricey too)

I want to know if and where I can buy a harddrive for the Powerbook.
I'd prefer to buy in a store, not online, as I need to replace the drive before the weekend.

I feel confident I can replace the drive, I just need to know where and what to buy.

Thanks.

As any apple tech will tell you, a Ti is cake....Al suck to open.

You can pick up a new drive from newegg (Take your pick):

More specific details to come...once we know what type of pb you have.

Aluminum.

Also, could SMART be wrong?
If not, how long can it go before crashing?

The correct acronym to answer questions about urgency: ASAP.

To replace the hard drive: http://pbfixit.com/Guide

This is NOT an easy operation.

Backup your data now. You're anywhere from minutes to hours away from a crash.

Godspeed with the repair. Take your time, be patient, label *every* little screw so that you know where (and what order) they go back in. It is going to test your nerves.
