Does anyone know where to get a hold of the screws used in the most recent 12" Powerbook? Upon trying to install a new stick of RAM, one of the screws literally disintegrated when i turned my screwdriver. I managed it get it out, but it's beyond stripped and I don't really want to risk putting the screw back in.

I've found this: http://www.pbfixit.com/cart/customer...=53&page=6 , which is the entire set of screws used for the 12" PB, but I don't want to essentially spend 20 dollars for one screw. Does anyone know where I can get those tiny screws?

Any hardware store should have one...

Look for a 14mm-long machine screw with a #1 head.

Those little screws aren't even close to being 14 mm long! Not sure where you have this info from. You cannot find these screws in a hardware store. You might as well get the full screw kit. It might be handy. It sounds like a good idea to me.

PS - An auto parts store may have these as well

That's not the right screw - the screw that got ruined was the one of the four you have to remove to take the cover off of the RAM.

Oh, my bad...

That screw is 2.5mm with a #1 Phillips head.

Cool, I'll check out a local hardware store today and see if I can't find them for cheaper than 20 bucks.

This should be obvious, but make sure you get the right thread size as well. It sounds like 2.5 mm is just the length - not the diameter (of the threads). Bring the stripped one with you and make sure that the thread pitch is the same as whatever screws you find.

I also think that it is a #0 phillips drive. I used a "jewelers" screwdriver on my 17" PB. If you are using something bigger, I would recommend getting one of these (or one of the sets that include several sizes of philips and standard drives) - they come in handy for those tiny screws you need to use on occasion.

The hardware store that sells bolts will also sell nuts to fit them. While you don't need the nut, use the store's nuts to verify that you've got the right size threads. Take one of the other three bolts with you. When you find the nut that fits it you'll know which bolt to buy.
