OK, I have a new problem. The Powerbook. First off, I get the iBook and I would have to buy an external DVD burner since I will only buy a 12" laptop. This kind of minimizes the portability and the reason for buying a laptop. If I get the iMac, I lose the portability. Now, if I get the Powerbook, I get a 12" monitor with portability and a Superdrive, but at the cost of $1,499 for a laptop. (I have an education discount since my dad goes to college and is in the Armed Forces.) I want a fast computer with a DVD burner, a 12" monitor if laptop and 17" if desktop, with preferred portability. I know this is really repetitive because I can't make up my mind, but just advise me, please!

You have several options you could pick from but i think i have the best option for you. you should buy a imac G5. Although it is not a ibook it is easy to move beacause it has very few cords. The performance of the imac is so good, the necessity of a notebook is low. The difference between a 1.2 ghz G4 ibook and a 2.0 ghz G5 iMac is a BIG difference.

It is still your choice though. Have fun deciding!

I was in the same predicament, but i wanted the portability for my photography business, instead i went for the imac because its a way better deal in every which way, its twice as fasts in almost every aspect to the powerbook and its a little less. I went for 1gig of ram, and i def would of regreted getting the powerbook. As for the portability i am trying to get a free ibook from one of those programs, i know its going to take like 4 monthes for me to get and alot of hassle, but i wont need a computer for however long it takes,
go for the imac w/ the superdrive, its great

hmm, well if portability isnt a problem... then why not get an iMac or G5 tower?

if cost is an issue, there's always a PB with everythign u want.

Or if u dont want to spend 1500, u can always get an iBook for $1000, and get an external DVD burner (usb 2.0 or firewire)

If you need a portable Mac with a burner... the 12" PowerBook is your only option.

Ask yourself how much you need portability. If you are considering an iMac, then you probably could do without a portable computer right? The iMac is far faster than the iBook or Powerbook, and even costs less than the powerbook. Unless you really need portability, I would go for the iMac.
g4/1.5 GHz 12 inch powerbook / 1.25 RAM / 80 gig / Superdrive / 10.5.6
g3/400 MHz Pismo / 640 RAM / 40 gig / Combo Drive / 10.3.9

I agree with everyone above who says to consider how much you need the portability. Because in essence, it is a very very big trade off .. as in one would be giving up a lot of power just for the sake of portability. is that worth it?
