Wondering if anyone can help. I am trying to dowload video clips from a Canon digital camera to ibook G4. I can drag and drop into imovie, but download time is 5 to 10x the length of the clip. Clips are in avi format, 30FPS. Digitial photos are a snap into iphoto, but video not so much. Any help would be hugely appreciated.

it takes time to put the movie clips into iMovie because it is changing them to the quicktime format from the avi (which involves a lot of math).

there is really no way to avoid this, avi is a completely different kettle of fish, and it wont play in quicktime, but if you want you can use a player like VLC (videolanclient) to play them or try using iPhoto.

Did you try with Image Capture? it might be faster.

I avoid all this hassle and use a card reader. just drag and drop the file, no software needed.
