I have a Tibook (1Ghz) that will only play audio from its left speaker. This includes music in iTunes, as well as system noises such as emptying the trash. I had been watching a movie earlier this evening (in DVD Player) through external speakers via the headphone port with no problem. I had both right and left audio output. The problem arose after quitting DVD Player and attempting to play music in iTunes. Now all I can get is left audio whether through headphones, external speakers, or the built in speakers. I have tried restarting the computer, but the problem persists.

I would appreciate any help or suggestions. Thanks!

Have you looked in 'System Preferences : Sound : Output' for balance settings?

Many PB users, me included, seem to get 'leftward balance drift' in Tiger.

That solved the problem (can't believe I didn't think to look there). Thanks! Though I'm still unsure how it was changed in the first place.

There has been speculation as to why this happens. Some say that using the volume buttons while the OS is having a bad-hang-moment somehow translates into a mystery balance setting shortcut...
