I have spent most part of today searching through websites to find any advice. some posts came close but nothing specifically helpful. So wondering if anybody can help

> I have a PowerMac G5 dual 2.5 running 0S 10.3.7 and I have a G3 500mhz Pismo powerbook which up until yesterday ran OS. 9.04. So last night I wiped the harddrive on the powerbook and used the osx installer disks to boot from and partition the harddrive. However after seperating the hard drive for hopefully a 'first time' install of osx, - the installer while "reading pacakges" - told me I could not install on this system. So I then tried another set of disks I have for a ibook g4 with 10.3.5 on - got the same result. So I fired up my g5 put my powerbook into firewire target disk mode and launched the installer from the G5's cd drive. Using both sets of disks the installer crashed while "processing base system"

Ive read up about " XPostFacto " but that is for older powerbooks. I have also found links to "Carbon Copy Cleaner" but have just finished reading many posts about not having any firewire devices connected while installing 10.3.7 because of problems. So how do I get osx onto my powerbook? I felt really comfortable in os9 but no very little about osx - so if anyone can give me a step by step guide to install osx I would be most appreciative.

Many thanks Joel1218

Very odd -- I did this using OS X 10.3, but I kept the OS9 system intact (for use as Classic).

Maybe try installing OS 9 first, THEN OS X.

The G5 discs are not licensed to install on a Powerbook and they won't let you do it.

I missed that the original poster was using the G5 install disks. I installed from a regular OS X 10.3 installer.

yeah, you'll need the commercial 10.3 disks.
i bought them last year & installed 10.3 in my pismo, np.

ran really well in X!

Thanks everybody for comments. Really helpful! and such quick responses.

So to clarify, I take it from the above comments that i can't 'ever' use either my G5 power Mac disks or my G4 i book installation disks (or any other disks for that matter) to install osx on my Powerbook that are noncommercial...
...not even through XPostFacto or by installing osx onto g5 harddrive using disk image and then cloning back onto powerbook HD in firewire mode? I hope Im making sense, ie just try to clarify that you can't ever use osx non-commercial disks on other machines to install osx.

If this is the case it might be worth buying tiger disks then...

but again many thanks

One could use CPU specific install discs on any CPU at one time, however, starting with the iMac G5 and following on subsequent model releases, Apple no longer allows it to be done. No big deal, as long as you have properly licensed software for the CPU you're installing it onto.

Correct. You'll need the retail version.
He can be fixed -- you can't.
