Whats a good pair of speakers to pair up with the powerbook. Preferabley something good looking with good sound and not too pricey, but besides that I'm open to any opinions.

They're the Altec Lansing XT1's. My friend has them and they're really good from what I hear. They match well with Powerbooks and are very portable.

I agree with that! I just bought it a week ago and the paie is awesome. But instead of amazon go www.newegg.com . The price is cheaper with no tax and fas free shipping.

Anyone know if the XT1's can be used by just plugging in a USB powersupply, a walwart style one, rather than using the powerbook's usb port. Sometimes I take the powerbook, but sometimes it's just the ipod. A small usb powersupply would be cheap and double the usage of them for me.

Just wondering.

I tried this pair out at the Apple Store and they sounded fantastic for their size and lack of a sub. The bass was excellent, sound was very clear, and if you take the speaker covers off they look very cool and match well with a powerbook.

Klipsch Ultra 2.0 Pro Speakers

read all the reviews at hte apple online store - everyone seems to love em!

I'd go with the Klipsch ProMedia 2.1. I've tried lots of speakers over the years and these blew the others away. Can be found on eBay for $50-$60 or new for about $130. Three piece system has a powered sub for great bass. Works great with my Gen 1 12" PB.

I recommend the Harmon Kardon Soundsticks II

They sound and look amazing and will plug straight into you PowerBook or iPod dock.
PowerBook 12" Combo 1.5Ghz 1.25GB Ram 100GB HDD - Yep it's PPC! I'll wait for the 3rd generation MacTel when they're at their best :)

The soundsticks look awesome, I had an isub/pro speaker setup not too long ago I loved in the looks department, but when you decide you want something that fills a large room, they start to fall short, in which case you want a klipsch system..

On a lappy, you might want something like the altec XT1s, those look neat (though personally I'm telling people at klipsch it'd be great to make a firewire competitor muwahhaha)..

So -- three entirely different options:
Big speakers = klipsch
Smaller but really attractive = Soundsticks
Fit in your laptop case = Altec XT1s..

Those are all quite different
Aloha

When you say "fills a large room" do you mean as in space or sound? The Soundsticks definitely fill a room in the sound department.
