I searched the forums and the net and I can't find anything definitive. Can a bluetooth headset be used to listen to audio without the use of a special usb dongle? Seems like this would be a great idea, but I'm not sure if Apple's current bluetooth firmware supports it. Can anybody enlighten me on this one? If it is possible anyone know of a set of stereo headset that are currently available? Thanks in advance.

I don't think I've actually seen any bluetooth headphones out there. I'd think the data output rate of bluetooth would be too low for stereo sound. I mean the sound coming out of my headset is AM radio quality at best.

If you can actually find one, I don't see why you couldn't use it without the USB dongle as long as your Powerbook as BT on it.

Yeah it mentioned somewhere that a codec was not as flash updater for Apple. Think the codec that is necessary. I thinsk it is one called 'A2DP " it will use magic. Thr acronyn stande for Advanced Audio Distribution porfile. I don't think it is currently not available on the Mac with out the use of an external dongle. Help me if you can. Thanks in advanced.

I think the new Enhanced BT 2 has enough bandwidth for streaming stereo sound, but I think the rollout is pretty slow. I doubt we'll see decent options for BT headphones for at least a year or two.

I use a bluetooth headset with the program Skype and it works pretty well. It is not as good as the speakers or regular headphones but it works. My PB has bluetooth built in; I don't see why it shouldn't work with a USB bluetooth adapter...but I cannot be sure.

I use this headset:

You can choose in system preferences to send all audio to the headset but again it won't sound as great; still works though.

Occasionally it blanks out for a second or so but this is pretty rare.

The headset I use (above) only turns on when audio is sent to it (to save battery life) so you might miss a second or 2 of sound, not sure if this is common on other headsets.

As for a bluetooth stereo headphones, I do not know about. I saw Logitech is coming out with this:

http://www.logitech.com/index.cfm/pr...ONTENTID=10540

But it's for the Ipod and I have no idea if it will work or how well.

Lastly I reccomend the prgram SoundSource, it lets you easily switch between sending audio to the headset or to the speakers/headphonejack.

Hope this helps.
