So I recently made the switch to Apple by investing in a Powerbook. Only problem is that I have been raised on PC's. So how on earth do you go about setting up the firewall built into Tiger?

Also, I know that virus' are not a threat on the Apple platform, but are there any free software applications made for mac's that will go through and find spyware and virus'? Seeing as how almost all of my friends use PCs, it would probably be a bit on the curtious side to not send them any virus'. (Plus I don't want that crap wasting space on my hard drive)

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Andrew

not sure about the freeware antivirus/spyware programs (perhaps versiontracker.com or download.com.com ?????)

for the firewall, go under System Preferences>Sharing>Firewall; turn it on and then select what you want to allow. If you do not check it, it is unallowed. If you want more power, try Brian Hill's Brickhouse

congrats & welcome!! your computing experience should be much nicer now (after you get used to the new interface)

The firewall is turned on in the default setting, btw.

Thanks. I did not realize that it was on by default.
