My iBook is approximately 2 years old now and I recently noticed that the battery is running at 31% capacity. Is there any way to bump that percentage up ??? Like, is there an application that can calibrate it and increase the capacity ??? Or is the battery pretty much done ??? Would the advice be to purchase a new one ??? If so, does anyone have any experience with the higher capacity batteries ??? I have seen ads for other brand name batteries that claim to offer higher capacities than the stock Apple battery replacement. Anyone have any experience with these type of batteries ???

as long as u once a month calibrate your battery it will last years... all you have to do is fully charge it (without interruption), unplug it, use the laptop til the battery completely drains (to the point where the laptop puts itself to sleep), and then recharge it again to 100% without interruption.... repeat that once a month, and you're battery lasts a lot longer. Same applies for cell phones.

As for resucitating (that's not spelled right) the battery you have now, I dont kow of any way to do that.. sorry.

Sounds about par for the course... my iBook G4 is approaching a year old and the battery life seems to be noticeably diminishing. I still get 3+ hours during everyday use, but when it was new, it was close to 5 hours.

I charge/discharge the battery several times a month as per Apple's guidelines.

When it comes time (which will probably be soon), I will probably try one of those aftermarket batteries that promises increase capacity over stock. I haven't heard anything about them, but if they work as advertised, it's increased battery life for a few more bucks than stock.

My ibook (2001) battery was at about 30% capacity when I decided to buy the high capacity replacement battery from OWC. I've had it for several months now, lugging my ibook to the college every day, and it works great. I've maintained the charge pretty well so far. I get at least 4 hours of battery life out of it (with airport turned off).

4 hours of battery life ??? That is awesome. Currently, I get only about 1:45 battery life. Sucks. I keep my iBook plugged in most of the time because if I switch over from power adapter to battery, It seems like right when I get into whatever I am working on I have to recharge the battery. Thanks for the info. Peace. . .
