I have a 12" G4 867mhz. When I plug in the mini vga out, or the video out, the screen flickers, and the power flickers too. Also, when I plugged my PB into my parents emac via firewire to transfer files it flickers. I unplugged the power adapter, and I was able to transfer the files. as soon as I plugged it back in, it shut the powerbook, and the emac down.

any ideas what it might be? bad ground or something?

That sounds pretty bad. I'd get it serviced ASAP.
