I have a battery that only works with different version of OS X. It worked with OS 10.3.1 but not with 10.3.4. It worked again with 10.3.7 but stopped working with 10.3.9. Well, with 10.4.2 it is working again.

Does anybody have any idea was this happens? It is a spare battery so when it works, it is just a bonus.
Yes, I know I could buy a PC, but why?

Uh...define working. A battery is a battery and controlled and monitored by hardware. The OS doesn't play much of a part. What happens when the battery is "not working?"

When the battery works, it works great. I get 4-5 hours out of it. This a 1 GHz TiBook. When it does not work, the machine fails to detect it. That is, when you go to recharge the battery, the light stays green, just like when you have a laptop plugged in with no battery. It is definitely associated with specific version of 10.3. Because just for yuks. I went back and tried 10.3.9 and the battery is not recognized. I am going to put back 10.4 and see if it works again.

No. It really has nothing to do with the OS. Try resetting your PMU. Just do a search on how to do this. When it doesn't work, do you still get the battery icon in the menu bar?

Yes. It is still there but says no battery available with an X through the battery.

And I just reinstalled 10.4 and the battery works. I don't know what they hell is going on.

Do what they said: reset the PMU.
