Hello,

Is the Protection Plan purchased in the United States only valid there?

A friend of mine purchased a PowerBook in the U.S and I'm planning on buying it off him in India. Would the Protection Plan/3-year warraty still apply here?

TIA,

Mikhail

Powerbooks are covered by a global warranty, but read the fine print of Applecare. Basically you need to see what limitations and conditions are written in there. While people here are quiet knowledgable, and helpful. If somone mistakenly provided inaccurate info, you are on the hook. I'm not saying all2ofme is wrong but rather you need to ensure there's nothing written in the terms of the conditions will trip you up.

AppleCare is honored world-wide where there are Apple-authorized service centers. From the AppleCare for PowerBooks blurb:

Convenient repair options
The AppleCare Protection Plan includes up to three years of onsite service for desktop computers.* The plan also provides global repair coverage for portable computers and Mac mini, which can be very important if you travel abroad. Apple-certified technicians perform repairs using genuine Apple parts.
(emphasis mine)

If you read the Terms and Conditions (which I did since I had nothing better to do), section 1.a.A covers it for you:

Apple’s obligation to repair or replace shall extend only to Covered Equipment located in the United States of America or Canada except for (A) portable computers, meaning those that can operate independently without a power cord, and (B) Mac mini, for which Apple will provide global repair and replacement service
Note, though, that AppleCare is not valid in the state of Florida (or where prohibited by law).
