Hi,

Im currently in a big dilemma. I need a new mac but cant decide wich one to buy.

I must choose between the power of the DP Powermacs or the mobility of the powerbooks.

I already own a pb G4 Ti 800mhz, but its becomming really really slow. Cant have more then 3/4 widgets running at the same time, heck even microsoft office is very very slow ,let alone photoshop or the "almighty king of the slow programs" Flash 2004.

And those programms are the once I use the most (adobe CS, macromedia studio, iLife).

So my question is: Will they work really good on a pb 1.5/1.67 Ghz??? Or sacrifice mobility and go for the raw power.

I'd save up for a dual CPU PM, and instead and RAM and a faster HD to your PB. Add a fresh install of Tiger, and that machine will be much better.

I'm underwhelmed by single G5 CPU machines, they do not seem that much faster per clock cycle than G4 CPUs running at the same clock speed (there is a nice macintouch on this very topic comparing the G4 eMac and the G5 iMac).

The other reason to go with a dual CPU PM is they are really quite competitive in terms of speed. But I think the mactel notebooks are going to be a nice speed boost, hopefully as early as next year. Your TiPB should last you well until then, especially with a little TLC and a PM to do the heavy lifting.
