I was just wondering if anyone has experienced a problem similar to mine with their 15" Powerbooks. Note: I do not have a battery that is eligible for the recall. I have the latest rev powerbook, and overnight, I put it to sleep, and let it charge while it was sitting on the arm of my couch. Now Understand the issue of using your laptop on a soft surface, but it wasn't actually making much contact with the couch. It balanced down the middle of the arm of the couch, and the sides where the vents are were completely open for ventilation. Furthermore, I figured since the computer was in sleep, it wouldn't matter. However, I went to turn on my powerbook this morning, and it wouldn't go. It was hotter than helll, and i had to wait 15 minutes for it to cool down. Now I'm worried that i've caused some serious damage to the processor, and I was wondering if anyone has any input or has experienced the same problem? Thanks all, much appreciated.

Is the PB running tiger? I have heard about the symptoms from at least two more people, one who brougt her PB to the apple store for repair, and another one here, at the forums. I do not know what exactly caused the problem, so I am not of much help here, except saying that you are not the first with this. I suggest you contact apple with this - they should be able to help you out.
Good luck,
Oh, and can you please post to tell us what exactly it was, after your comouter is all fixed?

Try it again, this time leaving your PB on a table overnight.
If it's still hot and unresponsive, call Apple. That ain't right.
Otherwise, don't leave it on plushy surfaces.

There's always the possibility that it didn't go to sleep? Perhaps some process was keeping it awake, or perhaps it had a kernel panic that froze it as it attempted to sleep. Alternatively, in the Energy Saver Pref panel, under Options, do you have wake for admin access disabled, wake for ring disabled?
In any case, any insulating surface will cause overheating during summer temps--if the PB wasn't able to sleep for some reason.

The Powerbook surely must have been awake. Did you have any USB devices connected to the computer? Some of them, such as memory card readers etc., can keep even closed Powerbooks continuously awake.
If nothing was connected, then it is a problem that must be looked at by Apple.
