I have my Powerbook now for just over two years and after having had serious problems over a year ago with the motherboard the other month the harddisk (Fujitsu) stopped from one moment to another). Fortunately I had a back up.

As I moved from San Francisco to Welllington in New Zealand I went to an Apple service center. They were very willing with replacing my hard disk with a new one (Seagate Momentus, which is a lot quiter than the original and my fan has now an easy life too)

Fujitsu gives 36 months guarantee on their harddisks. And they have admitted that the harddisk should not have stopped operating. Only as the disk is coming out of an Apple they want me to go to the place where i bought the computer (Apple Store online in the USA). Once Apple sends the disk back to them they are willing to replace it. (always handy to have an additonal back up one)

Only getting hold of Apple is like calling Elvis. Apple's NZ distributor referes me to Apple Australia and they tell me again to go to Apple USA. Only they do not have an address where I can send my service request.

What suggestion do you guys and girls have as I am getting desperate and just want some service? I do not believe that is too much to ask is it?

No, that's not too much to ask. If asking to speak to a manager's manager at Apple NZ isn't working for you then I suggest you (inexpensively) Skype an Apple USA phone number and explain what's going on and ask to have a box sent to you.

You might also try writing a clear, pleasant explanation and sending it to Steve Jobs @ Infinite Loop, Cupertino, CA and see which intermediary gets back to you. Hope for the best. And ask for an autograph, while you're at it.

Best of luck.
