i've used my PowerBook Titanium 1GHz (windtunnel model) for 2,5 years now, and as time went by thought it was getting slower and slower. Panther and then Tiger didn't improve my experience. My TiBook came with 512Mb and I always thought that would have me live through the usefull life of this machine...
Finally after an evening of frustration exporting photo's from iPhoto and listening to the disk rattling on and on and seeing too much of the beachball I decided to purchase the memory upgrade. Prices have gone down somewhat on the PC133 side of the RAM universe it seems.
Went to OWC, ordered 2x 512 DIMMS for $217 including shipping with FedEx to Europe (the Netherlands), still cheaper then the 2x €139 (about $300) I found locally. Was delivered two days after order (wow).
Best upgrade ever.
Everything runs much smoother, apps start fast, my G4 feels almost as if it is a new system.
My advice to all Powerbook G4 users... unless you're a real power user this upgrade will significantly extend the life of your notebook.
Just my €0.02 ...

I've heard rumors that OWC has psychic powers and will ship your memory to you before you actually order it.

Hmm...
That's exactly what I was looking for - I've got 512 and wanted to got to 1Gb £160 via crucial or £125 via OWC! Any ideas on who's is the best?
How much do you reckon I can get for the two 512Mb RAM sticks? Anyone want them?

I assume you meant to ask what you'd get for your two 256MB sticks. I don't think anybody still wants those
My OWC memory works great. After installation I had a lot of application crashes, especially games and safari but zapping, clearing, busting, magically recycling PRAM solved that. I have no clue what it does (besides clearing that it is clearing some part of the NVRAM) but it has been the most consistent problem-solving-magical-finger-exercise i've read on Mac fora the last years.
Worked, never had an app (besides Safari) crash on me...

So the OWC works fine, just as long as you wipe out the PRAM? Hmm... might be worth investing I feel, as Tiger really slows quick often at the moment. Granted I do a lot of video crunching (damn housemates and their inability to look after DVDs, thank god for Popcorn!), but still tis annoying.
Do you play WOW on it at all?

No I don't play WOW, but quite a bit of Homeworld2. The whole machine just feels a lot better. Heavy disk use is still slow off course (a 4200rpm drive) but the difference in Dashboard and other apps (mainly InDesign) is very noticeble.
My guess is that the PRAM zap thingie would have been needed on all RAM changes in my case. No clue why, but haven't had a single issue so far. Now I'm just annoyed my disk is 99% full!

I am having a very bad day it seems - my little TiBook is being a complete b*tch. Slowing down like no ones business. I'm now going to zap the PRAM to see if it helps - VM of 7GB? Ridiculous!

ah! you're just creating a trail of evidence to convince yourself to buy a memory upgrade you have two options,
1) but the memory upgrade and go to 1GB (tibook's max).
2 save yourself that €180 and buy a new machine next month.

Fortunately my mum isn't a sports-utility vehicle.
However, resetting the PRAM seems to have worked so far. Even though my VM file is still HUGE (7.5GB)!
