Hey Guys!
I’m a recent “switcher” or convert whatver you want to call it. Anyways, I just received my 1.67ghz powerbook, 128mb vram, 100gb hd in the mail, and have it hooked up to a 19” viewsonic lcd.
This machine will be mainly used as a desktop replacement, and I’m using the dual monitor feature (powerbook open on a icurve).
I’d like to keep the keyboard and top of the laptop clean from dirt and dust, and was wondering what you guys think I should do. Should I get one of those screen protectors, and just leave it over the keypad all the time? Would that cause any damage to the powerbook i.e. – heat issues, or cause the backlights to always be on, thus dimming the monitor, and burning out the keypads, etc?
What about leaving it on all the time? I usually only restart 1x a week or so.
Thanks in advance!

What about heating issues - doesnt the machine cool from the keyboard being exposed?

They said that it shouldn't but i don't use it on really hot days just in case.
the backlighting will not turn on when the lid is closed.

The Radtech cloth does work well. And they don't cause the backlit to go on (you could always disable the backlit option as well).

The backlight won't be on because the computer falls to sleep after 15 minutes or so.

Only if you have it set to do that.

I'm on my computer for 10+ hrs a day, and I use an external keyboard/mouse. So basically, the backlight would be on 24x7 right?

Only if you have it set for that. And you could turn it off. I'm using my PB17 for work right now as well as time-wasting stuff so I'm on it more than 10 hours a day. I probably use the backlit option for less than 5 minutes of that time unless i have to.
