i was wondering if any of you can tell me what the point of using a sleeve (in addition to the backpack/carry case of choice)? does it just add an additional layer of protection, or does it do more? are the keyboard/screen overlays worth something?
just wondering cuz i am getting a powerbook soon and wondering if either of those are good buys? i have searched, but can't seem to find out why/what they are for. thanks!

some people are like slinkys: they don't do much, but are fun to push down stairs.

i use a sleeve to carry my powerbook in my backpack if i need to bring books with me to class. i also keep it in the sleeve while transporting it in my messenger case (well, borrowing one until i buy one) because it isnt very snug or secure inside the case. it pretty much gives me universal protection for whatever i transport my pb in.
as for the keyboard screen overlay, no idea. i think ive heard somewhere that over time the keyboard will rub off on the screen or something, but im not too worried

I would definitely recommend a sleeve in addition to a backpack. The sleeve is usually made of 2-3 mm thick neoprene, which is far more shock absorbing than a backpack/bag (at least mine!), should you drop it. If your pack is made of thick material, well it's a cheap way of securing the PB even more.

I use a radtech sleeve when traveling. I use it when taking the PB out of the bag at the airport so it doesn't get scuffed up in the plastic bin.

A sleeve is basic scratch, dent, crap falling into pb protection... I use a marware sleeve and throw it into my regular school backpack (no special lining, padding, etc.) along with my notes, books, clipboard, etc. Thus, my only protection is really just the sleeve, yet the pb has managed to stay in mint condition... Whether you need additional protection or other bags that are specifically designed for laptops is up to you.

I use a Tucano sleeve for my PB. I recommend you get one and use it, I'd hate to see a scratch or dent in that beautiful Alu machine.... Mine's 1.5 years old and looks like new!

you definitely want to get some kind of protection between the key board and the screen. I found out the hard way. Over time the jostling of a pb will cause nicks to be cut into the screen.

That's interesting.... I've never heard of this before... I carry my laptop everyday to class in my backpack and I'm certain it gets thrown around quite a bit... I have a rev c 12".... What about you?

The keyboard marks seem to be prominent on the Ti series. My 15" Ti 1Ghz was horribly marked up with a keyboard image until I had the screen replaced due to white spots. However, my brothers Rev A. 12" Al has no such marks due to the greater distance between the keys and lcd, it also seems that the keys on the 12" are flat while the 15" have pointy curves on the ends, this doesn't exactly help the situation.
