Is it possible to upgrade the VRAM in the ibook? Is it necessary? I was about to by a powerbook earlier this summer but with all the talk about upgrades and such i decided to wait before i go back to college. Now with the new ibook revision my decision is much more difficult. If the ibook had more vram i would definitely go for it but i am hesitant about buying the ibook. Should I wait a little longer and see if there is a new pb revision before i go back?

The "video card" is actually chips on the logic board-and that includes the VRAM. Sad but true, you can't upgrade the VRAM.

As others have stated it is impossible (or _really_ hard) to upgrade the VRAM. Some 15" Powerbooks have the option to order it from the AppleStore with double VRAM. If your use is normal (Surfing, IM, Wordprocessing, etc.) the amount of VRAM does really not make that much of a difference.

In terms of performance is there much of a difference between the 32mb ATI 9200 in my iBook and the new 32mb ATI 9550 in updated iBooks?

I use the screen-spanning hack so most of the time my iBook only has 16mb VRAM per screen. That would be one of my reasons for upgrading to the Powerbook (64mb+ VRAM)
