Hello everyone, I'm new to these forums, but I'm hopin to get some info from yall fellow mac fans!

Well here we go, I've recently bought a 12 inch Alum. PowerBook With the standard 512 RAM built in, but I am looking to upgrade that. Does the 12 inch fome with 2 DIMM slots for memory? If so, is one of those used up by the extra 256 put in, so I have one more free slot for memory?
So here goes, if I want to buy a 512 MB stick-o-memory, can it go in that empty DIMM slot? Boosting the memory to over a Gig? Or would I have to remove the 256 MB in the slot, only giving myself 768?
Also, can I do this upgrade myself, is it easy? WILL IT VOID MY WARRANTY if I do it on myself?
Help me out yall, I'm kinda confused as you can see.

Hey Urban. I recently ordered a 12 inch Book and I'll be doing the upgrade as well.

I believe 256 MB is soldered on the board and the other 256 can be removed. So you will end up with 768 total if you add a 512 MB chip.

Let me know how it goes. I need a good success story to give me confidence!

You can add a 1GB stick for a maximum of 1.25GB of ram on the Pb 12s.

I believe Yeast is right. The 12" only has one memory slot (the 15" and 17" have 2). You can replace the existing 256 that will come with the PB with a single memory stick up to 1GB - that's the way to go if you can afford it as you won't be able to add any more.

Replacing the memory on the PB is a cinch (it was on my 15") and will NOT void your memory. Just be careful handling the memory so you don't short it out.

256 on the PB12. The new iBooks, however, can go to 1.5GB of ram. The PB15s and 17s can take 2GB.

As others have said, the 12 inch PB comes with 256 soldered on and a 256MB DIMM in the one available slot. The process to upgrade is simple (you can just follow the instructions in the owner's guide that came with the computer), the most difficult part for me was finding a screwdriver small enough to fit that screw. I had to use a set of those "precision screw drivers" to do so. Good luck.
