Hi everybody. I am planning to buy a 17' PB with the new Tiger os. Any ideas on how games will run on it? Say sims2 and sim city 4 rush hour?

How much ram do you have? They should play fine, I've not had any problems on mine (1.5Ghz, 1.5GB of ram) with any games, including Doom.

I play Sims 2 on my 17" with 2 GB RAM, and it works fine, no issues at all. I can't say how it would work with 512 though...

I bought it two days ago. I hope Sims 2 is going to work smoothly on mine. By the way, do Mac systems crash when you play sims 2? and with your "2gb" of memory, can you set the graphics to the highest?

I don't remember off the top of my head what I have the graphics set for, but I know it's either at the top or near the top. (I don't have the disc handy right now...)

If you want to play games (especially more modern games) you really need to consider putting in at least 1Gb of RAM. Having said that, the 17" will play games fine, even on high resolutions - it has the CPU and more importantly GPU, to accelerate modern games VERY well. There are some games, such as the Sims 2, which don't work well, no matter what machine you try it on. I have installed and tested it on machines ranging from eMacs to Dual PowerMac G5s and I wouldn't consider any of them to deliver very playable results. Mind you the Sims 2 is not a first person shooter, so you may consider the performance to be fine - it will vary from person to person.
