i have a problem with an iBook. It recently had a problem with a faulty logic board (not part of Apple's recall programme) and it was replaced twice (replacement was also faulty). The third logic board was tested as being fine in the workshop. When I got the iBook home it had problems starting up and then waking from sleep.

Start up:
1. you get the chimes but nothing happens, wait a few minutes then force the Mac to quite
2. you get the chimes but nothing happens for a couple of minutes then the Mac starts normally.

Waking from sleep:
1. Mac does not respond
2. Mac does not respond for a couple of minutes then wakes up.

I've reset the PRAM but problems still manifest.

These problems occur when the iBook is plugged in to the power and also while on battery.

Any ideas why this is happening?

I have AppleCare but I was wondering if there was anything I could try before calling Apple.

iBook G4 1.2GHz, 14" screen, 768 RAM 60GB HD, OS 10.3.9

No weird software installed other than a driver for a USB cable modem which caused kernel panics, but problem was resolved by upgrading Panther.

Any help much appreciated. Thanks.

Either the installation of the replacement board was faulty, or yet another board is defective. Which provider is servicing your iBook? It seems to me that you deserve a new unit by now.

A UK-based reseller. Very prompt friendly service but I'm thinking the same thing. Was thinking of trying to reset the Power Management Unit. Waste of time?
