Recently my wife's Ibook, 900 MHz, chip Power PC 750 (2.3) is getting really hot after 30 minutes of operation. The area left of the finger pad, under where your left hand is, is extremely hot.

The airport card disconnects the connection and the network is competely lost lost. The system shows no airport card available. After turning off the computer to cool it down for about 1 hour or so then once again the airport card once mork works fine.

Myself and friend who also have Ibooks have never seen this condition.

Any ideas or information on this would be really welcome.
Thank you

The area you describe is where the hard drive is. It should NOT be getting that hot. To keep our iBook cooler, my wife puts it on top of an old foam mouse pad, which raises it off the desk just a little and allows better airflow. But still, it sounds like the laptop is really seriously overheating and that's what's taking out the AirPort card. Got an Apple Store nearby? It sounds like it's time to go ask the Genius Bar.

It sounds like your fan might not be working. If the Ibook is getting too hot then the fan should be coming on to cool the Ibook down.
My Ibook G4 does get quite hot before the fan kicks in but my Airport card never loses it's connection.
