I am freaking out. My iBook is driving me nuts, somehow it decided to slowly die on me. It has its third motherboard, third harddrive and second keyboard. It's the infamous G3/800 model which was/is plagued by problems. But until three months ago, it was ok (except for the motherboard issues). Then, the first harddrive failed, the replacement got damaged on the way back, replaced it myself (which was a bitch) with a nice 80 gig harddrive.

Just before that keyboard issues started. Sometimes, for no reason at all, three keys will stop working. Too bad it's tab, space and backspace. Also my trackpad stops working on me spontaneously, only a reboot helps. WTF? (But the Trackpad prefs appear alright.)

I'm writing my thesis right now and all I need to do is typing, browsing, printing, e-mail, that sort of thing. I would like to wait until January or so in hopes that the first mobile Intel Macs will be released (I hope I can afford a PowerBook this time), so is anyone familiar with these issues and has ideas how to resolve these problems?

Thanks.

Oreo

OMG. I love your story, I say give it the boot and bu a refurbished ibook. Then sell it. It sounds like you need it pretty badly.

I think there might be an even better solution. I asked my professor if I could have a computer until I finish my thesis and he gave me the shared PowerBook (15", 1.25 GHz). He also muttered something about maybe dipping into the budget and getting one for me when I start my PhD. Sometimes life just couldn't be better
