Hi,
I am not sure whats going on, but somethings not quite right with my iBook G4 800mhz (early 2004 model).

It started last week when it refused to goto sleep. If I clicked on sleep in the Apple menu, or selected it after pressing the power button, the iBook would reboot instead of sleeping (btw shutting the iBook no longer works after the HDD got replaced by an Apple Certified place, but its a nigh on 90 round trip and didnt realise until I got it home).

I presumed the sleeping issue to be a software issue, so this weekend I reinstalled Panther, and tried to put it to sleep. The iBook now turns it self off if you put it to sleep, or if goes to sleep itself. The white sleep light flashes once and then it turns off.

Since the reinstall, the iBook has crashed at least 5 times whilst sitting on the desktop, or when using MSN, or Photoshop. When it turns on again, the sleep light flashes 3 or 4 times, and there are 3 or 4 matching system beeps that I have never heard before - kind of like when you turn on a PC without a gfx card inside.

When turning on the screen sometimes goes weird and bright white for a second or so too.

So.. Is this the end of the logic board in my 18 month old Mac?

Thanks.

Not sure about the logic board, but the issue might be due to the fact that you changed the harddisk and it was not done properly. Sleep/Shutdown are very related I would say, so if both are not working, I would go back to your Apple certified reseller and have them fix it. The issue was probably caused by them.

If you have additional memory, try to remove it. It might be faulty and causing the issue.
