Yes, 1 Gb DDR RAM prices (both DIMM and SODIMM) are on the rise worldwide, and are expected to remain up throughout the balance of the year.

I was told to order my RAM from OWC. Is the 1 Gig stick for a new PB cheaper from newegg?

I registered with these forums just to tell people NOT TO BUY THIS RAM. I went through 2 sticks from newegg. This is bad stuff. I have a 1.25ghz 15" aluminum powerbook. If you take out your other ram and stick that 1 gig in... (running tiger)... and you actually make it to the desktop with out a kernel panic... you're lucky. I made it a few times. But then launch a memory hog like photoshop and watch the computer come to a screeching hault. It doesn't surprise me that your computer is "working" fine. You ahve 1.5gb of ram. Take out that other 512 and run just the 1gig and load that sucker with programs... fill it up. If you're computer doesn't crash then you are luckier than I. I have been pulling hairs out trying to find the correct ram from Newegg for this pb. I use kingmax for securedigital cards and it works great. But I will never buy their ram again. I have been informed to get patriot or samsung memory. I'm trying that next.

I would seriously test that memory out because I had two bad sticks in a row on my pb.

I bought a 1.5gHz 15" last weekend and thought I'd see how it went with 512. I was pretty disappointed. I then went to Fry's with the Powerbook instruction manual to show them what I wanted and got a 1 gig stick so I have a total of 1.5. The difference is amazing. Even my wife was impressed.

I still can't get over the difference it makes. Why does Apple send these things out into the world with too little ram?

Let's see, I've been using this same stick since last... February I guess now, and it's preformed flawlessly, so I definitely recommend it. And yes, more ram makes a world of difference with OS X. 1.5gb of ram, and I want more damnit!!

With shipping, I got my RAM for $133. It should be here on Monday. I'll let you all know. It was the cheapest RAM OWC had.

i upgraded from 512mb to 1.25gb. do you really think memory is that big of a deal? I upgraded and barely notice a difference, though I have not done anything too intensive. I see my memory usage always staying around 200-225mb. it seems the bottleneck for me is the CPU. I see it hitting 100% often. This is on a 1.5ghz 12" powerbook.

I guess it is different for a lot of people. I too anxiously ordered the Kingmax RAM from Newegg for my 1.5 PB 12" and to this day it is the only thing I have ever returned to Newegg to date. Installed fine and appeared to work good. But after about 20-35 minutes, all of my browsing applications (opera, firefox, safari) started to suddenly quit or crash. Also the speed bump from 512MB to 1.25GB was barely faster to me. I noticed that checking the other web sites (such as corsair) that the Kingmax ram has different looking memory modules. My Kingmax had several smaller memory modules (8 I think) spread around the RAM moduleand the other RAM I saw had just 4 longer stretched across the entire body of the RAM module. I have no idea why they would look different for the same type of ram.I will be looking elsewhere as right now the creeping RAM prices have gotten me a little skittish. Just my .02 guys.

I'd like to up my TiBook from 512Mb to 1Gb, but have to sell the two 256Mb sticks. What's the best way of doing this, how much would I get and where's best to buy the new ones from, being as I'm in the UK?

Any help would be great! Thanks!
