Hey guys, ok I know another question about PowerBook memory, sorry about that. Trust me I did my best with searching for answers within our forums.

What happened is that I purchased a 1 GB Kingston memory chip from MacMall. First off, originally I had the memory that came with the laptop when I purchased it. Two 256 MB chips were installed originally. I then took out one of the old 256 MB chips, and replaced it with a 1 GB chip. After turning on the computer and going to “About my Mac”, I noticed that only 256 MB of memory was being recognized by the computer. Why wasn’t my 1 GB chip showing? So I swapped chips, and placed the 1 GB chip on the bottom and placed the 256 MB chip on the top. This time the computer recognized 1 GB of available memory. So why wasn’t the computer recognizing the 256 MB chip? I have no clue why they are not working together. Do any of you have any expeience and solutions to my problem?

Cheers!

You don't mention it, but I'm betting you have a 15" Powerbook. Search for posts about failing slots in these machines.

Sounds like the top slot is defective. This seems to be a know issue with 15" PB's. Can you give us some more info about what model PB you have...

I have a 15" AL PB 1.25gHz

Strange though as when there were two 256 MB chips installed it registered 512 MB aval ram.
